Insomnia Of An Ecologist

How can I sleep
When half a world away
More people are dying
In war and political decay?
Our leaders decide
Without our consent
To deliver us orders:
Divine rite heaven sent?
Remember that power
Comes not from a man,
And earth is shaking —
Foundations of sand.
Strange Arctic distraction
Our partner; our friend?
The earth started exploding
Methane boiling from thawing ground
With common interests and planet
And so much left yet known
Why serve any single man’s interests?
Instead of the stewardship we own?
